Who we are

SC Run Lab is founded and owned by Shawna Cohn, a long-time distance runner, general fitness enthusiast, and certified running coach and personal trainer. We are passionate about helping runners of all levels and abilities reach their running goals.

Here is a little more about our head coach and philosophy:

Shawna got hooked on distance running while in law school after joining friends for a charity half- marathon. She loved having a fitness goal and the structure and discipline of a training plan.  Since then, Shawna has run 13 marathons and dozens of half -marathons. She (safely) ran throughout two pregnancies until the day she delivered each of her sons.

Shawna understands what it takes to fit running, general fitness, and recovery into a very busy life.  She is a practicing corporate lawyer and a mom of two busy boys. Shawna is creative and nimble when it comes to crafting and implementing training schedules.

Shawna deals with chronic symptoms stemming from long covid and perimenopause, prompting her meticulous study of chronic illness and how it impacts athletic performance. Her studies, combined with her trialing of various interventions, has led Shawna to adapt her own training to better handle the fluctuations of these conditions.  Shawna’s health journey has made her a more informed coach and well-rounded athlete.    

Shawna approaches training with the recognition that every athlete is an N- of -1. She will train you as a whole person with your own set of considerations.

Shawna is passionate about creating a lifestyle that incorporates running- not making running your lifestyle.  Strength training, rest days, and recovery are not negotiable. While reaching your goals is important, maintaining your health and helping you achieve longevity in sport is also our priority.

Shawna’s coaching style is encouraging yet frank. The work you will do with SC Run Lab can be hard and time consuming while also being uplifting, empowering, and rewarding. Making changes and occasional sacrifices to meet your goals is part of the running journey and what will ultimately unlock your potential in and appreciation for the sport (and hopefully your mind and body along the way). We believe anyone can run who truly wants to run and is committed to the running process.
